ようやく開いた手紙…

少年は、プロのトランペット奏者になるため、
寄宿学校で毎日練習を続けていた…

同じ譜面を、何度も何度も繰り返し、
紙が擦り切れてしまうほどに…

お母さんから届いた手紙も、
読む時間のないまま、
少しずつたまっていった…

そしてようやく、
練習の日々に一つの区切りがついた日、
少年は手紙を一通ずつ開いていった…

そこには、いつも変わらない言葉があった…

「継続は力なり」

今なら、その言葉の意味が少し分かる…

毎日重ねてきた音は、
もう、自分の力になっていた…

少年は手紙をそっと胸に抱き、
もう一度、トランペットを見つめた…

これから先も、
きっと何度も迷うだろう…

それでも、あの言葉を胸に、
また一歩ずつ進んでいこう…

The boy entered a boarding school
to pursue his dream
of becoming a professional trumpeter…

Day after day,
he practised the same piece
over and over again,
until the sheet music was nearly worn away…

Letters from his mother
continued to arrive,
but he had no time to read them,
and they slowly began to pile up…

Then, at last,
when his long days of practice
reached a turning point,
the boy opened the letters,
one by one…

Inside them were the same words
she had always written…

“Perseverance becomes strength.”

Now, he could finally understand
what those words meant…

Every note he had played,
day after day,
had already become part of his strength…

Holding the letters gently against his heart,
the boy looked once more
at his trumpet…

There may still be many moments
when he loses his way…

Even so,
with those words in his heart,
he will keep moving forward,
one step at a time…

※この作品は一度作ったものの、
自分の中でどうしても納得がいかず、
しばらく寝かせたあと、
もう一度作り直した作品です。

私は時々、テーマ性の強い作品を作りますが、
そういう作品は、自分の中で納得できるまで
投稿しないようにしています。
この作品も、そのうちの一つです。

テーマにしたのは、
「継続は力なり」という言葉。

続けるということは、
本当に難しいことだと思います。
私自身にとっても、
「継続は力なり」という言葉は、
人生の永遠のテーマのように感じています。

※I created this piece once before,
but I just couldn’t feel satisfied with it,
so I set it aside for a while
and then remade it.

From time to time, I create works
with a strong theme,
and with those pieces,
I try not to post them
until I feel satisfied with them myself.
This is one of those works.

The theme is the saying,
“Persistence is strength.”

I think continuing something
is truly difficult.
For me as well,
the words “Persistence is strength”
feel like an eternal theme in life.
