真珠貝が開いたその瞬間…

みんなは、
あの大きなマッコウクジラに会いたくて、

アザラシのお手本を見ながら
真珠貝に挑む
ラッコたちを見守っていた。

みんなも次々と駆けつけ、
「がんばって、
開けて、開けて」と
応援する。

でも、
応援に来たペンギンは、
なぜかお魚が気になって、
つい、ぱくり。

そして、
真珠貝が開いた
その瞬間——

海の中から、
大きなマッコウクジラが
ゆっくりと姿を現した。

ペンギンはカメラを向け、
見張り番も
「出てきたぞ」と知らせる。

みんながずっと会いたかった、
その姿が
目の前に……

Everyone wanted
to see that big
sperm whale.

They watched
the sea otters
take on
the pearl shell,

following
the seal’s
example.

Everyone else
came rushing over,

cheering,
“Come on,
open it, open it!”

But the penguin
who had come
to cheer them on

somehow got
distracted
by a fish
and took
a little bite.

And then,
the moment
the pearl shell opened—

from the sea,
the big sperm whale
slowly appeared.

A penguin
aimed its camera,

and the lookout
called out,
“There it is!”

The sight
everyone had
longed to see
was right there
before their eyes……

※今回の作品は、
マッコウクジラのシールを見て、
海の仲間たちの物語にしたいなと思ったところから始まりました。

そして真珠貝のシールを見たときに、
ラッコたちが貝を開けようとしている姿が浮かび、
そこから今回の物語につなげていきました。

私の中には、
「平和な世界を描きたい」という思いが
いつもどこかにあります。

それは単に争いがないということだけではなく、
みんなが仲良く、
時には手を取り合いながら、
一緒に生きていくような世界です。

今回も、海の仲間たちが
それぞれに関わり合いながら、
一つのことをみんなで見守っている。
そんな平和な世界を思い描きながら作りました。

私は時々、海をテーマにした作品を作りますが、
同じような作品にならないように、
物語だけではなく、
作品全体の構図もできるだけ重ならないように
考えながら作っています。

同じ海というテーマの中で、
前とは少し違う世界や構図を考えることは
なかなか難しいのですが、
今回も、これまでとはまた少し違う海の世界を
楽しんでもらえたら嬉しいです。

※This piece began with a sperm whale sticker
that made me want to create a story
about friends in the sea.

Then, when I saw the pearl shell sticker,
I imagined the otters trying to open the shell,
and from there,
the story gradually took shape.

Somewhere within me,
there is always a strong wish
to create a peaceful world.

For me, peace is not simply about
the absence of conflict.
It is also about everyone living together in harmony,
sometimes joining hands
and supporting one another.

In this piece as well,
the friends in the sea are all connected
and watching over something together.

I created it while imagining
that kind of peaceful world.

I sometimes create works with the sea as their theme,
but I try not only to make each story different,
but also to think carefully about the overall composition
so that it does not overlap too much
with my previous works.

Within the same theme of the sea,
it can be quite difficult
to come up with a world and composition
that feel a little different each time.

I hope you enjoy
this slightly different underwater world as well.
