地球を救う

女の子が本を読んでいた。

そこには、
人間も動物たちも仲良く暮らす、
美しい地球が描かれていた。

けれど、
知らないうちに地球はどんどん疲れ、
気がつくと、
力をなくして海の中へ
落ちそうになっていた。

そこをクジラが助けてくれた。

ワンちゃんはびっくりして、
ハリネズミさんは心配そうに、
クジラのひれのところから
地球をのぞいていた。

そんな時でも、
パンダは浮き輪に乗って、
のんびりぷかぷか。

うさぎさんと猫ちゃんは、
つたを足に絡めながら、
一生懸命地球を
持ち上げようとしていた。

本を読み終わった女の子が、
ふとつぶやいた。

「なんとか地球が
元気になってほしいな……」

A girl was reading a book.

It showed a beautiful Earth
where people and animals
lived happily together.

But without anyone noticing,
the Earth gradually became
more and more tired.

Before long,
it had lost its strength
and was about to fall
into the sea.

A whale came to help.

The little dog was startled,
while the hedgehog,
looking worried,
peeked at the Earth
from beside the whale’s fin.

Even at a time like this,
the panda drifted along peacefully
in a swim ring.

The rabbit and the cat,
with vines wrapped around their legs,
were doing their very best
to lift the Earth up.

After finishing the book,
the girl quietly murmured,

“I hope the Earth
can somehow get better again…”

※この作品は、
地球温暖化をはじめ、
今、世界のさまざまな場所で起こっていることを見ながら、
私自身、ずっと心を痛めていて、
その思いを何とか作品にできないかなと考えて
作ったものです。

こうしたテーマを作品にするときは、
言葉の選び方も、作品そのものの表現も、
重くなりすぎないようにしながら、
それでも自分の思いはきちんと伝えたいと思っています。

そのバランスには特に気をつけているので、
普段の作品よりもかなり時間がかかりますが、
完成したときの達成感も、
やはり大きいものがあります。

今回の作品では、
女の子が本を読んでいるところから、
海の中に地球が落ちていくという、
現実にはありえない光景を描いています。

けれど私の中では、
疲弊している地球の姿と、
そこから目を背けないでほしいという思いを
どうすれば表現できるだろうと考えたときに、
ふとこの光景が頭に浮かびました。

現実にはありえない、
私の空想の世界だからこそできる表現として、
今回このような形で作品にしました。

※I created this piece
because I have been deeply concerned
by global warming and the many things
happening in different parts of the world today,
and I wondered if I could somehow
express those feelings through my work.

When I create a piece around a theme like this,
I pay particular attention
to both the words I choose
and the way I express the theme visually.

I do not want the work to become too heavy,
but at the same time,
I want to convey what I truly feel.

Finding that balance
takes considerably more time
than creating my usual pieces,
but the sense of accomplishment
when the work is finished
is also much greater.

In this piece,
the scene begins with a girl reading a book,
and then the Earth falls into the sea—
something that could never happen in reality.

But when I thought about
how I could express
the image of an exhausted Earth
and my wish that we not turn our eyes away from it,
this scene suddenly came to mind.

I chose to express it in this way
precisely because it is an imaginary world
where something impossible in reality
can take place.
