自由へ…

鳥かごの中にいるのは、
小さな鳥だけじゃない。

自由になりたくても、
一歩を踏み出せずにいる
そんな心も、
きっとどこかにある。

その上から、
小さな天使が
少女の行く先を
やわらかく照らしている。

だから少女は、
だれにも気づかれないように
急いで鍵をひらく。

もう大丈夫。
出ておいで。

あなたは、あなたの空へ
羽ばたいていい…

鳥のために。
誰かのために。
そしてきっと、
自分自身のためにも…

Toward Freedom

It is not only
a little bird
that lives inside a cage.

Somewhere, there may also be a heart
that longs to be free,
but cannot take
that first step.

From above,
a little angel
gently lights
the girl’s way.

So, before anyone notices,
the girl quickly unlocks the cage.

It is all right now.
Come out.

You are free to spread your wings
and fly into your own sky…

For the bird.
For someone else.
And perhaps,
for herself as well…

※かごに閉じ込められた鳥を見て、
この鳥はどんな気持ちなんだろうと思いました。

飼い慣らされた鳥は別として、
やはり自由に羽を広げて
飛びたいと思うんじゃないかな、
というところから生まれた作品です。

そして、それを人に置き換えて考えたとき、
人間もいろいろな制約や社会の中で、
そこから羽を広げて
飛び出したいと思うことが
あるんじゃないかなと感じました。

そんな思いを
自分自身の心にも重ねながら、
この作品を作りました。

※When I looked at a bird confined in a cage,
I wondered how it might feel.

Leaving aside birds that have been domesticated,
I thought that perhaps it would still want
to spread its wings freely
and fly.

Then, when I thought about this in terms of people,
I felt that humans too,
within various restrictions and within society,
may sometimes want
to spread their wings
and break free.

I created this piece
while also connecting those feelings
to my own heart.
